who, what, why?

Our individual practice was formed and grew from diverse experiences as independent artists as well as working with artists and designers as educators, coaches and consultants. Currently our research is focussed on the development of Oasis & Lagoon.

Our practice aims to research and debate the contemporary meaning of well-being through site-specific workshops, study trips and collaborative projects.

The initiative was founded in 2014 by artist/project developer Cathelijne Engelkes and artist/educator Marcel van Kan.

 

The founding works of Oasis & Lagoon consist of The Golden Shredder 2014, State of Well-being 2014, to Textiles Landscapes 2015, Playa Blanca & Playa Negro 2016.

Oasis & Lagoon furthermore initiated workshops in collaboration with academies.

A connecting element within these projects is to create a temporary stage like workshops, interventions and manifestations to enable and facilitate daily new notions of well-being which we plan to discuss, elaborate and consider these as a starting point of new ideas and adventures.

DDW Doom Pa Di Dee

The Dutch curator Jules van den Langenberg offers his perspective on the question;  How does the exhibition become more than a collection of objects on pedestals. The exhibition "Dee–Dee–Wee–Doom–Pa–Di–Dee", created by van den Langenberg, is a dynamic landscape in which the viewer and the designer play the role of encounter. The four film areas, reminiscent of the motifs seen on different TV channels, filled with the latest designer projects, reflect our cultures with a rapid change of focus from one subject to another. This exhibition offers the viewer the opportunity to enjoy exhibitions in a format that fully embraces the content.

It all started with the visitor buying a ticket in a vending machine. The golden cave ticket, like reality TV shows, gives visitors the opportunity to vote for their favorite channel. Every day, three lucky visitors, who were touched by the vending machine, won a private masterclass or one of the exhibitors. One leaves the impression of a playful farce that leaves you with wonder and passion about the reality of everyday life. This is where the young designer's energy and joie de vivre could be seen most clearly.
